Sensors & Software Inc. offers 3 days of intensive, informative instruction on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). The course covers basic principles, GPR instrumentation, survey design, data processing, analysis and interpretation.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a non-invasive technique that has found widespread application in areas ranging from utility location and concrete inspection to mineral exploration and ice road mapping.

This course is designed for novice and experienced users. No prerequisites are required. All attendees will gain insight into the broad application areas that employ this technology.

Course Structure

GPR concepts are introduced over 3 days of intense instruction. The first day reviews the fundamentals of GPR and the instrumentation involved. The second day focuses on providing students with practical experience out in the field. The third day provides an overview on how to process the GPR data to obtain desired results.

Now in its 22nd year, this course fee includes extensive handouts, use of GPR equipment and use of GPR data processing software. Text reference is Ground Penetrating Radar: Principles, Procedures and Applications, by Dr. A.P. Annan.

Lunch and snacks will be provided each day of the course as well as a dinner on Day 1 and social event on Day 2.

Program Schedule
DAY 1 – Wednesday, October 9, 2019
Participants are introduced to basic GPR principles. Fundamentals of electromagnetic theory, physical properties and EM wave properties are discussed.
Instrumentation concepts are presented and focus is placed on key issues in GPR survey design. An overview of the field day and instrumentation assembly is followed by a discussion of various applications illustrated through a series of case studies.

DAY 2 – Thursday, October 10, 2019
Students are given the opportunity to use the pulseEKKO and Noggin GPR systems in a field environment. Direction on system setup and calibration is provided as well as tips for optimum data acquisition.

Day 3 – Friday, October 11, 2019
Using field data obtained from Day 2, students will learn the steps in processing and presenting data with the various software packages available. A familiarity with Windows operating systems is recommended.

All attendees will be provided with a memory stick containing software, with limited use licenses, and sample data for practice at home.
