Subject Matter Expert – GPR Products

Job Summary:

As SME, GPR Products, you will be the technical champion of the Sensors & Software GPR product family. You will act as the liaison between R&D and marketing, taking the lead in technical discussions, design reviews, and projects as well as owning the product technology roadmap and resulting R&D activity. You will require technical leadership experience of hardware and software in a product development environment and you will lead the effort to solve complex technical challenges and provide innovative technical solutions. Researching new technologies, with the aid of external resources where necessary, and setting of product requirements at a system and product level will be a particular focus of this role. You will also be expected to manage small projects and work packages (planning, conducting and coordinating). Challenges will include modifying established procedures and devising new approaches to drive best practice.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Capture, understand, and share the business’ existing knowledge of GPR product technology. Identify where current technology can be improved.
  • Act as the product expert and system lead for their assigned product line within the R&D department.
  • Facilitate and lead discussions with R&D and marketing personnel in order to agree on new product development specifications/plans and R&D strategy for the assigned product range.
  • Own and maintain the technology roadmap for GPR products in collaboration with the R&D leadership team and the relevant Product Managers.
  • Leverage knowledge and skills from the wider Radiodetection / SPX organization where appropriate,
    including other product SME’s, in order to share common technology learnings.
  • Identify and develop suitable external parties who can supplement the internal technical capability with respect to R&D needs.
  • Project manage as appropriate and prioritize the technical work packages for R&D activity and new product development projects based on agreed product and technology roadmaps, working with both internal and external parties as appropriate, to deliver this work.
  • Supervise, advise and coach less senior technical staff on technical problems, reviewing and approving work for technical accuracy.
  • Responsible for the setting and agreement of product system requirements and the supporting V&V plans.
  • Plan and execute small projects and work packages in larger projects, either as an individual or as a work package owner.
  • Take ownership of the design activity required to support the current product line and new product developments.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Full, expert-level understanding of electronics and electromagnetic principles relating to GPR products.
  • Understanding of material properties and mixing relationship and how these apply in the GPR context in real environments.
  • Solid mathematical physics grounding to enable problem solving with focus advanced numerical methods.
  • Programming skills in Python and C/C++.
  • Ability to use numerical simulation tools to address EM problems and understand the numerical simulation limits.
  • Geophysical data analysis skills and in-depth time series analysis skills.
  • Experience to be able to relate to needs of software signal process advancement, understand applications issues and an ability to relate to the hardware electronics operation and limitations.
  • Solid scientific communications and writing skills and ability to meet with researchers in advanced technical forums.
  • Systems architecture definition and Requirements capture and management.

Education and Experience

Required Education / Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a science, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive systems engineering experience of electronic/software based products.
  • Experience of leading a V&V process.
  • Experience and strong leadership in peer reviewing colleagues designs.
  • Supervisory experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Masters to Phd qualification in a science, engineering, computer science or equivalent experience
  • R&D project management
  • Product life-cycle support
  • Active experience in the GPR field
